Dating back to the 1780’s, Wagtail cottage was formerly used as servants’ quarters and retains many characterful features.
The first thing you notice as you step into this stunning cottage is the exposed stone walls and beamed ceilings with plenty of room for all to relax and enjoy their stay. The spacious open plan living and dining area has comfortable leather seating and a large 46” television perfect for movie nights after a day’s adventure. The dining area is adjacent to a well-equipped gallery kitchen for those hearty meals but with several great pet-friendly pubs serving real ales and home cooked food, and a popular Italian restaurant all within a short walk, you could easily be tempted to leave the cooking to someone else. The open plan staircase leads to three comfortably spacious bedrooms with views across open fields and fells. With the choice of two bathrooms, you could opt for a quick shower or a more relaxing soak in the freestanding bath. Outside to the rear there is a pleasant enclosed courtyard for making morning plans over a cup of coffee or spending evenings with a glass of wine. For cycle enthusiasts, lockable undercover hanging is available. To the front there is private off road parking for one vehicle with ample free and unlimited parking in the village.
Wagtail Cottage offers a great selection of bridleways and low level forest walks straight from the doorstep. Gosforth village is the gateway to the two stunning valleys of Wasdale and Eskdale boasting Scafell Pike and Wastwater, England’s highest mountain and deepest lake. The perfect base to complete the more remote Wainwrights; Great Gable, Pillar, Steeple and many more hidden gems of the Western fells. Ennerdale Water, Crummock Water, Loweswater and Buttermere are all within easy reach and the perfect haven for walking, cycling, diving and climbing, with an abundance of attractions and places to visit, the choices are endless. The unspoilt Cumbrian coastline of St Bees Head and Seascale are a short drive away, ideal for families and dog lovers to take in the sea air and blow away the cobwebs. Keen golfers can also enjoy a visit to Seascale Golf Club. Popular local attractions include Muncaster Castle with its bird sanctuary and stunning displays you can relax in the beautiful gardens taking in the views over Eskdale. In nearby Ravenglass you can enjoy a ride on the narrow gauge steam train known fondly as L’al Ratty taking you on a splendid adventure to the foot of the Hardknott Pass where you can also visit an old Roman fort. Wagtail Cottage truly is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the Western Lake District. Beach 3 miles. Shop 200 yards, pub and restaurant 150 yards.
