Situated right in the heart of this charming town you will find an array of independent speciality shops, quaint restaurants and coffee houses, as well as a great selection of pubs and even a couple of micro breweries almost on your doorstep. Walking from the property you’ll reach the town centre in just 200 yards, passing by the Kirkgate Centre where you can take in a show or a movie. Walk through the town and you can visit the birthplace of the famous writer William Wordsworth, 800 yards, and then cross the river where you can feed the ducks and let the children play in the memorial gardens, 900 yards. If you want to get active while on holiday you can hire bikes just 400 yards away and go for a swim at Cockermouth Leisure Centre, 700 yards.
This picturesque market town, home to the famous Jennings’s Brewery, sits at the junction of the River Cocker and the River Derwent on its journey to the sea at Workington. As Cockermouth is right on the border of the Lake District National Park, you can choose between the adventure and rugged scenery of the lakes and mountains or the long stretches of sandy beach and stunning views across the Solway Estuary to the southern mountains of Scotland. From Cockermouth, your nearest Lake is Bassenthwaite which sits at the foot of the Skiddaw range, offering fantastic walks and views across the Northern Fells. Bassenthwaite is also home to The Lakes Distillery offering tasting tours only 5 miles away, and The Lake District Wildlife Park which is a great day out with the family, 6 miles away. The popular town of Keswick is 14 miles away and can be reach by car in about 20 minutes.
For walkers and cycling enthusiasts you’ll love the route over the Whinlatter pass to Whinlatter Forest Park, or continue down the valley to Buttermere.
