Set in the picturesque coastal village of Allonby on the north west coast of Cumbria, this quaint cottage offers a memorable seaside hideaway.
Beachcomber Cottage is one of the original properties within the cobbled streets of this charming village. Once frequented by smugglers, Allonby became an important centre for herring fishing and trade. There is plenty of evidence of its Victorian past from the iconic architecture that can be found around its narrow lanes. If you love the coast, you’ll love this seaside stay. You can cross the quiet coastal road to find a long stretch of sandy beach which is great for a bracing stroll in the sea air. Your four-legged friends are also very welcome at Beachcomber Cottage and with miles of sandy beach that has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is the perfect place to exercise your companions.
Newly decorated for 2018, you’ll find everything you need at Beachcomber Cottage. Upstairs has a lovely double bedroom and a comfortable twin bedroom which makes it ideal for couples and families, along with a modern bathroom. Downstairs has a well-appointed living room which leads to a well-equipped kitchen/dining room and has everything you need for preparing that heart-warming meal after a day of adventure in this beautiful part of Cumbria. Leading from the living room, you find a secret garden with mature plants, flowers and garden furniture, great on a summers afternoon to relax and soak up a bit of sunshine. At night time, you can switch on the fairy lights, light the chiminea and kick back to enjoy the stars in the dark night sky.
Allonby boasts two pubs, a chip shop, two shops and tea rooms, all within a 5-minute walk, including the famous Twentymans Ice Cream Parlour which will be a hit with the children! Just across the coast road you’ll find a children’s playground, football pitch and goals. If you like cycling you can take the Hadrian’s Wall long distance cycle way which offers traffic free cycling from Maryport to Silloth. If you want more rugged adventure you are only 10 miles from the Lake District National Park where you can take on the challenge of any number of the 214 Wainwright fells along with plenty of off road cycling routes. For shopping and sights head into Maryport, just 5 miles away or 16 miles to Bassenthwaite, where you’ll find stunning panoramic views over the lake as well as The Lake District Wildlife Park with over 100 animal species, or The Lakes Distillery offering a day out with tasting tours.
