Mill Moss Barn has the best of both worlds, a modern contemporary barn conversion, with character features. Situated in Patterdale, at the southern tip of Ullswater, with a shop, pub and restaurant within a few yards. The barn has a spacious open plan living space on the first floor enhanced with spectacular views, including a winter view of the lake, the phrase "room with a view" seems made for Mill Moss. Guests will enjoy the feeling of being in the midst of some of the finest Lakes scenery. Enjoy breakfast al fresco soaking up the views, or perhaps end the day in style with a chilled glass of wine on the balcony. The stylish furnishings complement the character of the property and with added benefits like Wi-Fi, wood burning stove and a great music system guests are sure to appreciate the quality of this superb self-catering accommodation. Guests have access to a delightful area of fell land immediately above the cottage, which has fabulous views. A beautiful drive along the valley leads to Brothers Water, over Kirkstone Pass, with a charming Inn on top and on to Ambleside and Windermere.

Open plan Lounge/Kitchen/Diner: With wood flooring, wood burning stove (fuel not provided), 50” LCD TV, music system with connection for portable devices and bi-fold doors leading to the balcony.

About the local area

Ullswater is the Lake District's second largest lake at nine miles long. Located in the eastern side of Cumbria, it bends and twists its way through dramatic mountain scenery on one side and a gently curving shoreline of green fields and woodland on the other.

Boating centres and marinas nestle unobtrusively on the lake edge, perfect for the water sports enthusiasts, or visitors can relax and enjoy the scenery from one of the steamers that have sailed the lake since 1855.

Many of the Lake District's many walks have their starting point from around Ullswater, including the renowned trek to Helvellyn's summit via Striding Edge. Or for the less energetic there are many low-level walks through beautiful countryside.

Of note is Glenridding which sits on the south western shore and is surrounded by the fells with wonderful scenic views. Pooley Bridge on the northern shore, with its 16th Century Bridge, Lakeland greystone houses and quaint teashops and Patterdale just to the south of Ullswater, cradled by mountains.

Lake Ullswater

Ullswater is said by many to be the most beautiful lake in the Lake District. It is the second longest lake in Cumbria measuring a length of seven and a half miles and a width of _ mile.


Located just off the M6 J.40 between the northern lakes market town of Penrith and the village of Stainton, Rheged is a surprising building of architectural merit.

Just above Pooley Bridge and easily accessible from the roadside Gowbarrow is south facing and offers some really worthwhile climbs on the middle crag.

On the northern side of the lake, a short walk from the lake shore you can find one of the Lake District's most stunning and famous waterfalls.

Walking up Hallin Fell

To experience one of the best panoramic views of Lake Ullswater, you should hike up Hallin Fell which is situated mid way down the lake and is part of the well known `kink' in the length of the waters.
