Description

Grey Knott is a lovely, comfortable property, just a few minutes walk into the popular market town of Penrith. Ideal for couples or young families, it is set in a quiet residential cul-de-sac, and has a delightful enclosed patio garden to the rear. Once inside, the rooms are well presented and there is plenty of space for all. The living room offers seating comprising of sumptuous sofas, an attractive electric fire, which will soon warm you on those cooler evenings. A separate kitchen and dining area is the place to share those meals and enjoy good conversation together, although with so many excellent places to eat in the town, you could be easily tempted away from cooking. There’s also a convenient downstairs cloakroom, ideal for youngsters to come straight in from playing outside. Upstairs are three bedrooms and a family bathroom.
Penrith is easily accessed from the M6, and is served by its mainline railway station, so getting here is very simple. It has an attractive town centre with a wide selection of shops, cafés and bars as well as an interesting shopping arcade. Just 6 miles to the west is the Lake District’s second largest lake, Ullswater. Here you can catch one of the historic steamers from Pooley Bridge at the northern end of the lake. There are stunning lakeshore walks, as well as boat hire and sailing for all. Glenridding is a popular tourist spot, and often a good place for walkers to tackle Helvellyn and its infamous Striding Edge route. Closer to home, and for the less adventurous, Penrith Castle has an intriguing past and is well worth a visit. Just 2 miles outside the town you will find Brougham Castle, with ruins dating back to Norman times. For rainy days, the Rheghed Centre has a massive six story high 3D cinema screen, and also offers plenty to do for all of the family. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

About the local area

Ullswater is the Lake District's second largest lake at nine miles long. Located in the eastern side of Cumbria, it bends and twists its way through dramatic mountain scenery on one side and a gently curving shoreline of green fields and woodland on the other.

Boating centres and marinas nestle unobtrusively on the lake edge, perfect for the water sports enthusiasts, or visitors can relax and enjoy the scenery from one of the steamers that have sailed the lake since 1855.

Many of the Lake District's many walks have their starting point from around Ullswater, including the renowned trek to Helvellyn's summit via Striding Edge. Or for the less energetic there are many low-level walks through beautiful countryside.

Of note is Glenridding which sits on the south western shore and is surrounded by the fells with wonderful scenic views. Pooley Bridge on the northern shore, with its 16th Century Bridge, Lakeland greystone houses and quaint teashops and Patterdale just to the south of Ullswater, cradled by mountains.
