Within a row of just five 17th-century terraced cottages, The Tottsie has bundles of character and original features, which help this holiday cottage stand out from the crowd. Sleeping up to four guests, this property is ideal for both families and couples. Its quiet location means that you can escape your busy life and retreat to the countryside in no time. The ground floor features an open plan living and dining room which has been refurbished in 2021, complete with a cosy wood burner and open views across gardens and fields at the rear. Also on the ground floor is a well-equipped kitchen and a modern family bathroom. Upstairs, you will find the bedrooms and a shower room, and you will soon realise why this property is one to remember. Just take a look out of either of the bedroom windows and behold the stunning sight towards Bassenthwaite Lake, Borrowdale Valley and many of the iconic north-western Lakeland fells. You will never tire of waking up to that view every morning. The property also benefits from a large, private lawned garden, which is at the end of the row of cottages, complete with patio and garden furniture. Because of the open nature of the surrounding landscape, the garden is a great place to relax in, soak up the sun and enjoy the wildlife and views all around. Immediately behind the property is a dense wood with red squirrels and birds of prey. From the top you have stunning views to Skiddaw, one of the highest fells in the Lake District National Park.

You have two local pubs within a couple of miles serving good food and an excellent selection of locally produced ales. Also within a couple of miles is The Lakes Distillery which offers tasting tours and produces fine whisky, gin and vodka, this is always a hit with the adults. For the family, why not try the Lake District Wildlife Park with over 100 species of animals. Further afield you are just 8 miles from the popular town of Keswick on the shores of Derwentwater, which offers an abundance of shopping and dining experiences, as well as a variety of cultural hotspots and tourist attractions, including Derwent Pencil Museum, home to the world’s largest pencil. The Theatre by the Lake offers award-winning arts and drama, and the mind-boggling world of the Puzzling Place is fun for all ages. Take a trip to Cockermouth, 7½ miles, the birthplace of William Wordsworth. Whether you want relaxation, adventure or family fun, The Tottsie is a great choice for your next Cumbrian holiday. About the local area

Bassenthwaite Lake and village of the same name is situated just north west of Keswick in the Northern Lakes. The magnificent Skiddaw (931m) can be seen rising to the east and Grisedale Pike (790m) to the south west.

Paths leading from Bassenthwaite village connect to circular walks in the area and holidaymakers are able to go fishing and sailing on the lake. From May to September look out for the wild Bassenthwaite Lake Ospreys raising their young chicks or watch the video link from Whinlatter Forest Visitor's Centre. Try a visit to the historic 17th century manor house, Mirehouse, which is close by on the eastern shore of the lake and has some lovely garden walks (Open April - October) or travel a few miles west to market town of Cockermouth or just a little further to Maryport on the coast.

This area offers the ideal base for exploring nearby Keswick; a charming Northern Lakes market town of great character and is well placed for touring the untouched northern and western lakes.
