Ullswater Steamers are an award winning attraction on Lake Ullswater which has been said many times to be the most beautiful in the lakes. This is the best way to experience and explore this stunning area of the Lake District; you can combine a fantastic cruise along the water with a walk.
Sailings run all year round so it is a guaranteed brilliant day out no matter what time of the year you are holidaying. There are four boats in use known as `Lady of the Lake', `Raven', `Lady Dorothy' and `Lady Wakefield', with `Western Belle' going under refurbishment. Each boat has its own little piece of history with the `Lady of the Lake' first launching back in 1877!
The steamers company was first used not just to carry passengers but for transporting royal mail, provisions and slate from nearby mines. As the years went by, it developed more and more for tourism with the addition of extra boats. With piers at Glenridding, Pooley Bridge and Howtown, there is a choice of great places to get off and explore either side of the lake.
Visit the Pier House in Glenridding to find out more about the amazing history of the Steamers and the lake.
