Cartmel Priory is one of the most beautiful churches in the north east. Built more than 800 years ago the church serves as a centre for the local community and for the 60,000 tourists and pilgrims who visit each year.

The church has an abundance of interesting features from the belfry tower and lantern tower to the choir stalls and stained glass windows. The church offers guided tours where you can learn more about the daily routine in the monastery and the stories of battles with Henry VIII. Tours take place every Wednesday from April to October at 11pm and 2pm. Tel: 01539 536261
