Description

Jesmond Cottage is a traditional single storey cottage overlooking the upper village green in this quiet little village. Jesmond Cottage has been refurbished in 2021 and offers a delightful little cottage to enjoy a relaxing holiday in the Eden Valley.

The spacious sitting room overlooks the village green while the modern and newly fitted kitchen and dining area offers the perfect place to sit and enjoy breakfast before you start exploring the area. Great Corby has an excellent pub where you can sample some fine ales brewed by Great Corby Brewhouse which is just a few yards from Jesmond Cottage next to the Queen Inn. There are many lovely walks from Jesmond Cottage particularly over the railway footbridge at the northern end of the village over the River Eden to Wetheral. Slightly further afield there are delightful walks around Talkin Tarn Country Park where you can enjoy acres of delightful woodland and Tarnside walks, and has plenty of recreational opportunities for cycling and watersports. The border city of Carlisle with its 12th century cathedral and 11th century castle, is a lovely city to explore and of course, great for a spot of retail therapy. Brampton is also a delightful market town with many shops selling local produce, and both are only 6 miles away from Jesmond Cottage.

Of course no visit to Jesmond Cottage and this delightful area would be complete without seeing some of Hadrian’s Wall, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can explore the wall’s history and its dramatic landscape at over twenty fascinating sites, among them Birdoswald Roman Fort. For exploring further afield, your stay at Jesmond Cottage could not be better as you can easily visit the North Pennines, Scotland and of course the lakes and hills of the Lake District National Park.

About the local area

Carlisle's modern city centre has a rich heritage; a wonderful combination of culture, history and the great outdoors. It is surrounded by acres of parkland and has some of our finest countryside right on the doorstep.

This great border city has had a turbulent past, leaving a legacy for today's visitors to experience. Carlisle Castle was founded in 1092 by William the Conqueror's son and became one time prison to Mary Queen of Scots. Later it was captured by Bonnie Prince Charlie during the ill fated Jacobite rebellion of 1745. Other places to visit include Carlisle Cathedral and the award winning Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery.

Nearly 2000 years ago Emporer Hadrian built Hadrian's Wall, stretching coast to coast, marking the northern boundary of Roman Britain. Today it is a World Heritage Site with a National Trail Path that allows walkers to travel along its entire 80 mile length; a great way to discover more about the region.

So if you're looking for secluded country walks, city art galleries, forts and museums, Stately Homes and castles, you'll find it all here!
