Virginia Cottage has a wonderful country cottage feel from the moment you pull up outside with flowers surrounding the property. You can sit out and relax in the charming garden and listen to the birds chirping in the surrounding trees. The property is best suited for couples and older families who plan to spend a relaxing and enjoyable holiday in the picture perfect village of Silverdale. Still upholding the cottages original features, it is full of history. The small kitchen/dining room still has the Victorian cooking stove and there are original ceiling beams throughout. Upstairs boasts a large kingsize room, a single room with 4ft bed and a shower room.
The coastal village of Silverdale is located on Morecambe Bay, close to the Cumbrian border, and forms part of the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Silverdale is known for its limestone hills, grassland and salt marshes. Because of this marshland, birds thrive in the area. For those wishing to explore the immediate area, you do not have to go far to find many places to visit. Just a short drive away is the seaside village of Arnside and along the promenade there is an abundance of boutique shops, restaurants and pubs. From here you can enjoy walking up Arnside Knott, Warton Crag and Gait Barrows. Trowbarrow, a local nature reserve, is located in a disused limestone quarry and has many interesting rock formations, so it’s perfect for climbers. Also close by is Leighton Hall, the ancestral home of the Gillow family, boasting beautiful gardens and Gothic towers. RSPB Leighton Moss is close by and is home to more than 100 bird species.
Silverdale is a perfect base to explore its surrounding areas of the South lakes and Yorkshire Dales. Hop on the train to Grange-over-Sands, a charming, Victorian, seaside town, with a range of shops and cafés. Visit the village of Cartmel, known as the foodie capital of the South Lakes and famous for its sticky toffee pudding. Driving will take you just 30 minutes into Windermere and Bowness, and over to the famous Ingleton waterfalls in the Yorkshire Dales. Beach 4 miles. Shop and restaurant ½ miles, and pub ¾.

About the local area

Kirkby Lonsdale is in Cumbria's south east in between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales; an historic market town in an area of great natural beauty with riverside and country walks.

There are many riverside and country walks in the area, and historic buildings to see in the town itself, including the 11th century Norman parish church. While some market towns have become spoilt over the years, Kirkby Lonsdale and its surrounding area of outstanding landscape still retain the same beauty appreciated by Constable, Turner, and Ruskin.

Further north lays Kirkby Stephen at the head of the Eden Valley, a popular centre for walkers and situated on the Cumbria Cycle Way - a great route for all keen cyclists.

Half an hour's drive from Kirkby Stephen is the beautiful area of Silverdale - an Area of Outstanding Beauty, offering a truly inspiring escape from the pace and pressures of everyday life. Don't miss the headland of Jack Scout leading to Jenny Brown's Point. From here, look out across the bay to see Humphrey Head where, so legend has it, the last wolf in England was slain.
