Description

Dating back to the 17th century, this impressive Elizabethan farmhouse has been restored to provide luxurious accommodation in the heart of the Howgill Fells. Set in approximately 1-acre of private garden and woodland, it provides an ideal retreat for families, groups of friends or those seeking peace and tranquillity in an idyllic location. The interior of the property has been lovingly created to ensure that all the modern comforts are provided, whilst at the same time paying respect to its heritage by retaining all of its period charm and character. The heart of this home is the beautiful living room with original oak beams, oak floor, a roaring open fire, a piano, and plenty of comfortable seating with Liberty covers. Modern touches include a 50" Smart TV, DVD player, radio with media usb/cd player and, of course, there is Wi-Fi. Local maps, magazines, books, DVDs, a chess set and games are also provided. The dining area, which is perfect for formal dining, has a magnificent 16th-century oak refectory table and eight beautifully carved oak chairs. In addition to the main living area, there is a bright conservatory which has stunning views of the mountains and surrounding countryside, making it the perfect place in which to relax.
The farmhouse kitchen is fully equipped with a double electric oven and gas hob, a dishwasher and fridge. Character features include the terracotta-tiled floor, feature oak beams, a spice cupboard and an inglenook fireplace with a cast-iron stove. There is a breakfast area and separate utility which houses a microwave, a large freezer, an additional full-sized fridge and washing machine.
The old oak staircase leads up to the three beautifully decorated and individually designed bedrooms, with designer fabrics, sumptuously comfortable beds and luxurious bed linen, towels and toiletries. There are two kingsize bedrooms, one of which has its own en-suite bathroom. There is also a twin bedroom with Hypnos beds, which can be linked on request to make a very comfortable 6ft bed.
Outside there is a large, fenced garden with a furnished terrace, a parasol for providing shade, a charcoal barbecue, as well as magnificent mountain views.
One of the greatest delights of staying at Goodies Farmhouse is being able to lace up your walking boots and enjoy the many lovely walks straight from the doorstep, whether that is a gentle stroll down to the river, or a more challenging walk up onto the high fells.
Whilst Firbank is actually within Cumbria, it is also within the Yorkshire Dales National Park, so you have both the Dales and Lake District within easy reach, making this the perfect touring base.
The quaint market town of Sedbergh is just 4 miles away and here you will find several antique shops, a good pub, cafés, a bakery and a supermarket. A wider range of amenities can be found in Kirkby Lonsdale, 12 miles. Other places nearby worth visiting include the Yorkshire towns of Dent, with its pretty cobbled streets, 9 miles; Ingleton, 17 miles, with its caves and waterfalls; and Hawes, 19 miles. Over in Cumbria, you have all the delights of the Lake District to explore. Windermere is just 30 minutes away by car, and why not sail across Ullswater, take a leisurely row on Grasmere, climb Cat Bells by Derwent Water, or partake in the GoApe tree top adventure at Grisedale Forest? For a more leisurely day out, you could not visit Beatrix Potter’s home at Hill Top, or the World of Beatrix Potter attraction at Bowness. There are also plenty of lovely restaurants, pubs and tea rooms. With quaint, pretty villages, fabulous country pubs, stunning scenery, varied walks, and plenty of local attractions there is so much to see and do, and what better place to relax at the end of the day than Goodies Farmhouse? Beach 19 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 4 miles.
Goodies Farmhouse can be booked together with Bluebell Cottage (ref UK2564) to accommodate up to 8 guests.

About the local area

Kirkby Lonsdale is in Cumbria's south east in between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales; an historic market town in an area of great natural beauty with riverside and country walks.

There are many riverside and country walks in the area, and historic buildings to see in the town itself, including the 11th century Norman parish church. While some market towns have become spoilt over the years, Kirkby Lonsdale and its surrounding area of outstanding landscape still retain the same beauty appreciated by Constable, Turner, and Ruskin.

Further north lays Kirkby Stephen at the head of the Eden Valley, a popular centre for walkers and situated on the Cumbria Cycle Way - a great route for all keen cyclists.

Half an hour's drive from Kirkby Stephen is the beautiful area of Silverdale - an Area of Outstanding Beauty, offering a truly inspiring escape from the pace and pressures of everyday life. Don't miss the headland of Jack Scout leading to Jenny Brown's Point. From here, look out across the bay to see Humphrey Head where, so legend has it, the last wolf in England was slain.
