Description
Attached to the main farmhouse, but with its own private access and garden, Bluebell Cottage is an idyllic retreat for couples. Dating back to the 17th century, it has been fully renovated and thoughtfully furnished in a traditional country style using Liberty and Laura Ashley fabrics, antique pine furniture and an old elm staircase. The welcoming living area has a beamed ceiling, plenty of comfortable seating, a cosy wood burner, and a dining table and chairs. More modern touches include Wi-Fi and a Smart TV, and books and games are also provided. On the first floor is a beautifully presented double bedroom with a beamed ceiling, a comfortable kingsize bed and high quality linen. There is a separate shower room with a power shower, and towels and toiletries are also provided.
Bluebell Cottage has its own private garden with a natural waterfall and country garden plants. Within the pretty garden are seats in both sun and shade, and a sunny terrace has a table and chairs for al fresco dining. The mountain scenery surrounding the cottage is breath-taking, and as you would expect in such an unspoilt area, there is a marvellous variety of wildlife. Pied flycatchers and redstarts nest in the garden, there are badger setts in the nearby woods and the occasional sighting of roe and red deer. Ideal for couples who love the great outdoors, there are many lovely walks straight from the doorstep, whether that is a gentle stroll down to the river or a more challenging walk up onto the high fells.
Whilst Firbank is actually within Cumbria, it is also within the Yorkshire Dales National Park, so you have both the Dales and Lake District within easy reach, making this the perfect touring base.
The quaint market town of Sedbergh is just 4 miles away with several antique shops, a good pub, cafés, a bakery and a supermarket. A wider range of amenities can be found in Kirkby Lonsdale, 12 miles. Other places nearby worth visiting include the Yorkshire towns of Dent, with its pretty cobbled streets, 9 miles; Ingleton, 17 miles, with its caves and waterfalls; and Hawes, 19 miles. Over in Cumbria, you have all the delights of the Lake District to explore. Windermere is just 30 minutes away by car, and why not sail across Ullswater, take a leisurely row on Grasmere, climb Cat Bells by Derwent Water, or partake in the GoApe tree top adventure at Grisedale Forest? For a more leisurely day out, you could visit Beatrix Potter’s home at Hill Top, or the World of Beatrix Potter attraction at Bowness. There are also plenty of lovely restaurants, pubs and tea rooms. With quaint, pretty villages, fabulous country pubs, stunning scenery, varied walks, and plenty of local attractions. There is so much to see and do, and what better place to relax in at the end of the day than Bluebell Cottage? Beach 19 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 4 miles.
Bluebell Cottage can be booked together with Goodies Farmhouse (ref UK2564) to accommodate up to 8 guests.
