Description

Located just ½ mile from the centre of the bustling, market town of Kendal, but in a quiet residential location, Glaramara offers comfortable and spacious accommodation close to one of the southern Lake District’s most popular towns. This Victorian terraced house is well-proportioned and decorated in a contemporary style that complements its period charm. There is a cosy living room with wood burner and French doors, separate dining room and a bright, well-equipped kitchen area off the living room which has a great range cooker. The living room has a Smart TV with Netflix and there is fibre-optic broadband. With very flexible sleeping accommodation the property would equally suit families, couples or groups of friends who love walking and the great outdoors.

Kendal is a traditional market town which offers a good selection of unique shops, tea rooms, cafés, pubs and restaurants. The property is close to the southern part of the town centre and you can walk to the edge of Highgate in around 5 minutes. For families, there is a leisure centre (¼ mile), theatre, cinema and playground. Attractions in Kendal include the castle ruins and museum, Abbot Hall Art Gallery and the Museum of Lakeland Life, the remains of Castle Howe and the Kendal Castle and Friends Meeting House which houses the Quaker Tapestry. Just 6 miles from the M6, Kendal is regarded as the southern gateway to the Lake District and it is a great base from which to explore all that the Lake District has to offer. Close to the National Park border, it is only 8 miles from Windermere, 13 miles from Ambleside and 20 miles from Coniston and Grizedale. In the other direction is the stunning Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Walking and mountain climbing are very popular activities and coupled with the magnificent scenery, makes it one of the nation’s most popular destinations for those who love the outdoors. Other activities available locally include cycling and golf, and of course, there is an abundance of water-based activities. Whether you are a regular visitor to the Lake District or a first timer, Kendal has something to offer everyone and its accessibility makes it popular all year round. About the local area

Situated to the South of the Lake District, and only a short drive from the sea, Kendal is especially well placed to cater for everyone's holiday needs. Kendal is often seen as the Southern gateway to the Lake District, being only around nine miles from Windermere and around 30 miles from Keswick.

The other lakes are all within an hour or two's travelling by car from the town, as are locations for walks and rambles, both gentle and demanding. The town is home to a fine selection of shopping arcades, can boast two castles, two museums, a host of historical buildings and bridges, fine restaurants, a multitude of public houses, and views that would please the most demanding photographer including the nearby ruin of Kendal Castle.

The pleasant Lakeland village of Underbarrow lies to the west of the town of Kendal and sits at the foot of Helsington Barrow, a limestone ridge rising to around 700 feet. Underbarrow stands at the centre of a network of roads linking Kendal to Crosthwaite in the Lyth Valley, Newby Bridge and Ulverston and the village of Crook to Levens making it idea to explore all the surrounding areas with ease.

Further west is the small village of Crosthwaite which is an ideal point from which to explore the Windermere and South Lakes area and, with walks right from the door, it will please keen walkers and hikers.
