The Stable is a cosy property on the Cumbrian Way footpath 2½ miles from Ulverston. Part of a traditional Cumbrian bank barn, it is perfect for relaxing after a long day’s adventure, and is ideally placed for exploring the Southern Lake District, it’s Peninsulas and West coast.
There is something for everyone whatever the weather within easy reach- Walkers will find several footpaths from the door and a short drive to The Old Man of Coniston, Tarn Howes, Langdale pikes, Black Coombe and the glorious Duddon Valley. Cyclists will find national cycle routes round the peninsulas, Coniston and Grizedale forest as well as Ulverston “velo retro” festival.
For wildlife enthusiasts there are several nature reserves nearby and the beauty of the Morecambe Bay estuaries to be enjoyed. History buffs can visit the Dock museum, Furness abbey, Roman fort and baths and Birkrigg stone circle. Ulverston hosts a quintessential English cinema- the Roxy, the Laurel and Hardy museum and the Dickensian festival. Food lovers we have regular farmers markets in Ulverston which also has many excellent restaurants catering for all tastes. Nearby Cartmel is home to two Michelin starred restaurants, sticky toffee pudding and an amazing cheese shop! For art lovers there is Cumbria crystal, the Ruskin museum, Brantwood, and many exhibitions of local art and music festivals throughout the year. For sporting enthusiasts there is golf, horse riding, rock climbing, sailing, canoeing, open water swimming to name but a few. For the young at heart there are Escape rooms, Go Ape, South Lakes Zoo, Fell Foot, Beatrix Potter, Muncaster & Wray Castles and Haverthwaite steam railway.
For those who simply wish to relax, there is the Buddhist temple in Ulverston offering retreats, spa days in Newby Bridge, and many beaches, quiet spots and easy access to the cruises on Coniston and Windermere. Catering for two adults in one double room, the cottage has everything you need, but regrettably it is not big enough to entertain additional guests or for persons with significant mobility challenges. Shop, pub and restaurant 2½ miles.
