Grange Over Sands takes its name from the sandy shores of Morecambe Bay, upon which it sits. The sands once formed a major route from Grange to Lancaster but, in the late 19th Century, the Furness Railway brought an influx of people and growth to the area, aiding the expansion of Grange Over Sands. As a Victorian/Edwardian resort Grange flourished and continues to do so today by offering the very finest Cumbrian cottages to accommodate its many visitors each year. Self-catering accommodation in the town ranges from studio flats, to cosy bungalows, to sizeable cottages and even converted farm buildings. The town has worked hard to protect its rich Edwardian and Victorian heritage and visitors can enjoy the unspoiled town centre, where ornamental gardens and a duck pond provide the backdrop for traditional English entertainment from brass bands and a range of independent shops and boutiques. Grange Over Sands boasts a beautifully restored Victorian railway station, from which you can hop on a train for a short ride to places like the RSPB Bird Reserves at Leighton Moss, the city of Lancaster, or the beautiful lakes at Windermere, Ambleside and Bowness.
