Hop on the train to Grange-over-Sands, a charming, Victorian, seaside town, with a range of shops and cafés. Visit the village of Cartmel, known as the foodie capital of the South Lakes and famous for its sticky toffee pudding. Driving will take you just 30 minutes into Windermere and Bowness, and over to the famous Ingleton waterfalls in the Yorkshire Dales. Beach 350 yards.
