Also known as Silloth-on-Solway, Silloth is a popular seaside resort with wonderful vantage points of the surrounding area. The port town has the Lake District fells looming large on the horizon on one side and the Solway Firth on the other. Indeed, you can see across to Annan in south-west Scotland from Silloth. The sunset viewing platform and promenade stretching as far as the eye can see will make for some picture-postcard moments no matter when you visit. Watersport enthusiasts should think about stopping in one of the nearby Cumbrian cottages as West Beach offers ideal conditions to get out and about on the water, as well serving as a perfect spot for families and friends to soak up a few rays. Silloth's tree-lined cobbled streets add to the unique charm and character of the town, while there is a busy little dock and lifeboat station to take a look around. The bargain hunters among you may fancy browsing the huge car-boot sale and market held at the old airfield in close proximity to the town. A mile away is Gincase Farm Park, with a Cumbrian tearoom, arts and crafts barn, an art gallery and an interesting collection of farm animals. The summer months are when Silloth really comes alive. The town stages `Solfest' on August Bank Holiday weekend, which is the county's biggest four-day live music festival and attracts crowds of up to 10,000. A beer festival also takes place in early September and the vast grassy open space in the centre known as `The Green' hosts events throughout the year.
