Kayaking on River Rothay

The River Rothay is a popular place to kayak. The meandering river provides great waters for novices to have a go at this exciting water sport.

You can start your kayaking journey at Grasmere Lake following River Rothay out of the lake to Rydal Water; this is approximately a distance of 1km. Once you pass through Rydal Water, the river starts to meander for a long distance until it reaches the small town of Ambleside. If you carry on following the running water it will bring you to Lake Windermere. The whole length of the kayak paddle will be approximately four miles meaning you can spend the whole day out on the water!
