A popular place to visit in the Borrowdale Valley is Lodore Falls, a waterfall which was formed by the Watendath Beck and is located near the southern end of Derwentwater. It falls a height of 100 feet and looks spectacular as the water tumbles over the huge boulders. The best time to visit these falls is when the beck has a high volume of water after a heavy rainfall.
The walk up to the falls is a lovely short walk through woodland finished by a slight climb just before you reach the falls. A great quick stroll for the family! There are no boundaries so you can get up close to the falling water, just be aware of the slippery surfaces.
Once you’re there, you could enjoy a nice relaxing picnic in the open area around the base of the waterfall. This was a frequently visited place by the Victorians, and you can see why it has remained popular for so many years.
