Penrith Agricultural Show: July 22nd

Penrith

Taking place annually, on the fourth Saturday in July, the Penrith Agricultural Show dates back to 1834. A mainstay in the local calendar, this community event makes a great day out for the whole family. The main arena traditionally hosts entertaining events, such as show-jumping or bird of prey demonstrations, while the surrounding village stalls bring together many of the region’s top producers. Kids will love the rural crafts marquee and the chance to see some of their favourite farmyard animals in action!

The Cumbria Steam Gathering: July 29th and 30th

Grange over Sands

Organised by the Cumbria Steam and Vintage Vehicle Society, this is a haven for motor heads. You can spend a weekend exploring the fantastic display of vintage commercial vehicles, steam engines and classic cars, enjoying routines from performing motorbike troupes and more!

Additional entertainment is provided by local artists, a traditional fairground, music acts and a Segway experience!

Lake District Summer Music: July 31st – August 11th

If you know your symphonies from your sonatas, then this one’s for you!  Claimed as one of the best classical music festivals in the country, Lake District Summer Music welcomes international performers to North West England. The popular festival relies on numerous venues across the region, from Keswick to Kirby Lonsdale, to host a musical celebration in inspirational settings.

Grasmere Lakeland Sports: August 27th

Cumbria has a well-built reputation as a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, and the Grasmere Lakeland Sports festival is a great way to experience some of the region’s best open-air pursuits. The annual event, which dates back to 1868, combines active events, such as sprint races and fell running with family friendly puppy trails and musical performances. Don’t miss the Cumberland Wrestling competition, in which participants are encouraged to dress in traditional garb!

Taste Cumbria Cockermouth: September 23rd and 24th

Ok, so this one may be a little later in the year, but Cumbria is beautiful in the September sun! The region is rightly proud of its fantastic producers and suppliers, and Taste Cumbria Cockermouth is one of the highlight events of the foodie calendar. From pop-up restaurants fronted by Michelin-starred chefs, to tasty tipples, courtesy of local breweries, you’ll want to make sure you bring your appetite with you. There are more than 80 stalls for you to explore, a music night, and the Sunday tasting sessions from Lakes Distillery is sure to keep everyone in high spirits!
