This cottage was the original village Blacksmith’s smithy until fairly recently. The owners have tastefully converted and extended it, to provide a spacious and cosy two bedroom, two bathroom cottage, which retains it character and original features. There is a fantastic log burner which give a wonderful atmosphere when lit, a wealth of beams and the original Smithy’s work bench and vice.
The cottage is situated next to a working farm, on the fringe of the village of Blencow which lies 4 miles North of the M6, 10 minutes from the motorway and well placed to explore Ullswater and the Northern Lakes. There is a footpath outside the cottage for walking your dog. There is a village shop/post office in nearby Greystoke. The kids will love the open air pool in Greystoke (seasonal opening only) and the activities at Rookin House, including horse riding and quad bike riding.

About the local area

Ullswater is the Lake District's second largest lake at nine miles long. Located in the eastern side of Cumbria, it bends and twists its way through dramatic mountain scenery on one side and a gently curving shoreline of green fields and woodland on the other.

Boating centres and marinas nestle unobtrusively on the lake edge, perfect for the water sports enthusiasts, or visitors can relax and enjoy the scenery from one of the steamers that have sailed the lake since 1855.

Many of the Lake District's many walks have their starting point from around Ullswater, including the renowned trek to Helvellyn's summit via Striding Edge. Or for the less energetic there are many low-level walks through beautiful countryside.

Of note is Glenridding which sits on the south western shore and is surrounded by the fells with wonderful scenic views. Pooley Bridge on the northern shore, with its 16th Century Bridge, Lakeland greystone houses and quaint teashops and Patterdale just to the south of Ullswater, cradled by mountains.
