Description

Conveniently situated in the Lakeland village of Penruddock, which benefits from very easy access to the M6 and only 15 minutes drive to both Keswick and Ullswater. To the north of the village are quiet country lanes and villages which are great for cycling. Nord Vue Barn, as the name implies, was an 18th century barn which the owners converted to an extremely spacious holiday cottage, with the best of traditional and modern features. There is a village pub serving bar meals.

About the local area

Ullswater is the Lake District’s second largest lake at nine miles long. Located in the eastern side of Cumbria, it bends and twists its way through dramatic mountain scenery on one side and a gently curving shoreline of green fields and woodland on the other.

Boating centres and marinas nestle unobtrusively on the lake edge, perfect for the water sports enthusiasts, or visitors can relax and enjoy the scenery from one of the steamers that have sailed the lake since 1855.

Many of the Lake District’s many walks have their starting point from around Ullswater, including the renowned trek to Helvellyn’s summit via Striding Edge. Or for the less energetic there are many low-level walks through beautiful countryside.

Of note is Glenridding which sits on the south western shore and is surrounded by the fells with wonderful scenic views. Pooley Bridge on the northern shore, with its 16th Century Bridge, Lakeland greystone houses and quaint teashops and Patterdale just to the south of Ullswater, cradled by mountains.

What our customers say

Julie Branton - May 2012

Our second visit to this property has not failed to deliver. The property is very well presented, in an excellent location for visting the area but also in a small quiet village, with a local pub within walking distance. The owners of the property have thought carefully about the furnishings and equipment provided. The log fire is a wonderful welcome after a day out walking. For us we would always consider returning to Cumbria and we would look to book this cottage everytime if it is available! The owners who live next door are really welcoming, they ensure a warm and friendly welcome by providing some welcoming gifts (tea bags/Cake), which we have never experienced with any other cottage we have stayed at, it is such a nice touch. They respect your privacy but are so helpful and accomodating when you need them. I really can not rate this cottage high enough, it is very rare to find a property like this which offers so much.

K Netherwood - March 2012

The cottage is wonderful, we wanted for nothing. Absolutely perfect.

A Dunstun - March 2012

We had a lovely stay and would rent this cottage again in the future, overall it was perfect and no complaints at all, well maybe the weather, but its England and you can't have it all!
