Description

Only a mile from the village of the same name, Edenhall was originally used by the drovers crossing the nearby ford and driving their cattle south. Today it is an immaculately restored house in secluded grounds, outside the village of Edenhall, adjacent to the River Eamont, in the Eden Valley and 15 minutes away from Ullswater. Edenhall comfortably accommodates 12 guests but smaller groups who appreciate the qualities of a larger house will find the spacious accommodation equally appealing. The setting is tranquil and the perfect antidote to modern life. You’re surrounded by nature, trout, and salmon in the river, all varieties of birds including dippers, kingfishers, duck geese, deer and is a real haven for red squirrels. Penrith has excellent food shops and quality supermarkets. The owner’s can provide fishing at an additional charge (the Winderwath Estate neighbours the property and welcome fishermen with day passes) and are happy to point you in the direction of other activities in the area. Penrith station is on the west coast main line and is accessible from London in under 3 hours.

About the local area

Ullswater is the Lake District's second largest lake at nine miles long. Located in the eastern side of Cumbria, it bends and twists its way through dramatic mountain scenery on one side and a gently curving shoreline of green fields and woodland on the other.

Boating centres and marinas nestle unobtrusively on the lake edge, perfect for the water sports enthusiasts, or visitors can relax and enjoy the scenery from one of the steamers that have sailed the lake since 1855.

Many of the Lake District's many walks have their starting point from around Ullswater, including the renowned trek to Helvellyn's summit via Striding Edge. Or for the less energetic there are many low-level walks through beautiful countryside.

Of note is Glenridding which sits on the south western shore and is surrounded by the fells with wonderful scenic views. Pooley Bridge on the northern shore, with its 16th Century Bridge, Lakeland greystone houses and quaint teashops and Patterdale just to the south of Ullswater, cradled by mountains.
