The Edenhall Estate is situated in the village of Edenhall, a 15-minute drive from Ullswater, 5 minutes from Penrith and just 3 hours on a direct train from London. The tranquil setting is the perfect antidote to the stresses of modern life, surrounded by fantastic views, and wildlife, including deer, red squirrels and a variety of birds including owls, dippers, geese and heron. The Estate is flanked by the River Eden and the River Eamont, home to trout and salmon. The Edenhall Estate is located right in the heart of the beautiful Eden Valley, renowned for its scenery, wonderful walking, picturesque sandstone villages and quiet country lanes. The area is perfectly placed between the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks, making it ideal for cycling, hiking and outdoor pursuits. Some notable attractions in the area include Brougham Castle and the stunning Dalemain, a country house set within large grounds, its medieval courtyard and Elizabethan great barn featured in the TV adaptation of Charlotte Bronte’s ‘Jane Eyre’. Not to be missed is a trip to Cumbria’s Rheged Discovery Centre, which, apart from its huge IMAX cinema showing movies on a giant screen, is home to the National Mountaineering Exhibition and the Discovering Cumbria Exhibition. Penrith has excellent food shops and quality supermarkets. Also available through the owner are a range of outdoor pursuits including fishing, shooting, horse riding, and paintballing (at cost). Penrith Station is on the West Coast Mainline and is accessible from London in under 3 hours. Shop 1 mile, pub and restaurant 110 yards.

About the local area

Ullswater is the Lake District's second largest lake at nine miles long. Located in the eastern side of Cumbria, it bends and twists its way through dramatic mountain scenery on one side and a gently curving shoreline of green fields and woodland on the other.

Boating centres and marinas nestle unobtrusively on the lake edge, perfect for the water sports enthusiasts, or visitors can relax and enjoy the scenery from one of the steamers that have sailed the lake since 1855.

Many of the Lake District's many walks have their starting point from around Ullswater, including the renowned trek to Helvellyn's summit via Striding Edge. Or for the less energetic there are many low-level walks through beautiful countryside.

Of note is Glenridding which sits on the south western shore and is surrounded by the fells with wonderful scenic views. Pooley Bridge on the northern shore, with its 16th Century Bridge, Lakeland greystone houses and quaint teashops and Patterdale just to the south of Ullswater, cradled by mountains.
