About the local area

Ullswater is the Lake District’s second largest lake at nine miles long. Located in the eastern side of Cumbria, it bends and twists its way through dramatic mountain scenery on one side and a gently curving shoreline of green fields and woodland on the other.

Boating centres and marinas nestle unobtrusively on the lake edge, perfect for the water sports enthusiasts, or visitors can relax and enjoy the scenery from one of the steamers that have sailed the lake since 1855.

Many of the Lake District’s many walks have their starting point from around Ullswater, including the renowned trek to Helvellyn’s summit via Striding Edge. Or for the less energetic there are many low-level walks through beautiful countryside.

Of note is Glenridding which sits on the south western shore and is surrounded by the fells with wonderful scenic views. Pooley Bridge on the northern shore, with its 16th Century Bridge, Lakeland greystone houses and quaint teashops and Patterdale just to the south of Ullswater, cradled by mountains.

The property is absoluately amazing and we will definately be back. The location is ideal and beautiful with lots of local interest and a great local Pub - The Queens Head. The cottage is in excellent condition and literally spotlessly clean. The cottage provides all the home comforts you normally do without when staying in someone else's property. The kitchen was very well stocked so cooking was enjoyable and the washing machine was a massive help after those muddy walks. The beds were very confortable and the shower was great. thank you.

N Austin -

We were very pleased with the cottage. Everything we needed was there, especially as we are keen cooks, the kitchen was particularly well equipped, something we have not experienced with other rental properties. Bedrooms were large and very comfortable.

J Thomas -

Property and location beautiful. Our very very many thanks for being one of very very few Lakes operators who permit short break bookings during school holiday periods. Cumbrian Cottages and owners have achieved lots of gold stars for this as it is by far our preference ( any many of our friends with school children also). Very well equipped from kitchen point of view. It is the first time I have ever had a sharp cutting knife for cooking and baking tins in a holiday property which is important for us as we often like to eat in.

S Lacey -

I was impressed by the facilities in the cottage and the range of books, maps and general information that was available to us there.

Delightful well equipped, warm, comfortable cottage, lovely views. A lovely weeks holiday.

Dr  Esnor -

Another lovely visit (our 2nd) and we will be booking again - you have thought of everything, comfy beds, lovely shower and excellent cooking equipment.

WOW - what a beautiful cottage, Cumbrian Cottages brochure undersells it. Location is ideal.

The cottage was amazing, also so were the location and the views.
