Thornthwaite and Braithwaite are situated in between Bassenthwaite Lake and Derwentwater in the Northern Lakes. These peaceful Lakeland villages are ideally located, with many local places of interest right on the doorstep.
These peaceful Lakeland villages are ideally located, with many local places of interest right on the doorstep; lakes, forests, mountains and the delightful market town of Keswick a short distance away. Great for cycling, walking, nature watching and water sports on the nearby lakes.
Whinlatter Forest Park is adjacent and is England’s only true Mountain Forest. From May to September visitors can see wild Bassenthwaite Ospreys raise their young, either at the lake or via video link to the Forest Park Visitor Centre. The park has miles of footpaths and cycle ways and provides a habitat for a wide range of wild life. They also have many organised activities and events throughout the year.
Both villages are within easy reach of all the essential amenities and Keswick is only 2 or 3 miles away. Braithwaite has a village shop and two excellent pubs both serving bar meals.
