Description

Merle Bank is situated in the heart of the ever popular Lakeland village of Threlkeld, on the lower slopes of Blencathra. This mid-terraced cottage has accommodation set over three floors, with beautiful fell views of Clough Head, a small front garden which enjoys day-long sunshine, and children will love the public playing field nearby.

The cottage is very comfortably furnished throughout, the spacious living/dining room has a cosy wood burner, the twin bedroom and large family bathroom is on the first floor and a steep, winding staircase leads to a large, attic-style double bedroom with great views of Blencathra.

Threlkeld has a golf course and two renowned pubs, each serving real ale, good food and one with a restaurant, whilst the vibrant market town of Keswick is only 3 miles away. With fabulous fell walks from the doorstep, Merlebank provides a great base for your holiday in the North Lakes. Shop 3 miles, pub and restaurant 400 yards.

About the local area

Threlkeld and St. Johns in the Vale are just to the east of Keswick in the Northern Lakes. The steep sided Blencathra looms over Threlkeld village, a popular starting point for walking the mountain; three ridges lead to the summit from the village. St. Johns in the Vale, as the name suggests is set in a peaceful valley surrounded by some of England's highest mountains.

Threlkeld's history reaches back more than 800 years; the Romans were here from the 3rd to the 8th century, followed later by the Norse. In the village the church dates back to 1578 and there are two pubs that first opened their doors in 1688.

St. Johns in the Vale is in one of the most stunning valleys in the Northern Lake District. Though only a few miles outside Keswick, the area is tranquil and unspoilt with great views of Blencathra and the Helvellyn range.

There are many places of interest within easy reach; beautiful Ullswater to the east, the lively market town of Keswick and Derwentwater to the West and Thirlmere to the south, with forest walks and fishing.
