This substantial 5 bedroom former farmhouse enjoys a truly idyllic setting, nestling into the fells in St Johns in the Vale, one of the most tranquil areas of the Lake District. Lowthwaite Farmhouse underwent considerable refurbishment by the new owners in 2010 to create a stunning self catering farmhouse of superior quality, which has the benefit of lovely fell views, a garden and ample parking. There are delightful walks in the valley and more strenuous walks on the surrounding fells. Threlkeld village is only 2 miles and has 2 pubs, both serve good food and one has a restaurant. Many more amenities may be found in Keswick, a vibrant market town 5 miles away.

Threlkeld and St. Johns in the Vale are just to the east of Keswick in the Northern Lakes. The steep sided Blencathra looms over Threlkeld village, a popular starting point for walking the mountain; three ridges lead to the summit from the village. St. Johns in the Vale, as the name suggests is set in a peaceful valley surrounded by some of England’s highest mountains.
Threlkeld’s history reaches back more than 800 years; the Romans were here from the 3rd to the 8th century, followed later by the Norse. In the village the church dates back to 1578 and there are two pubs that first opened their doors in 1688.
St. Johns in the Vale is in one of the most stunning valleys in the Northern Lake District. Though only a few miles outside Keswick, the area is tranquil and unspoilt with great views of Blencathra and the Helvellyn range.
There are many places of interest within easy reach; beautiful Ullswater to the east, the lively market town of Keswick and Derwentwater to the West and Thirlmere to the south, with forest walks and fishing.

A wonderful setting, but close to Keswick for ameneties.
We have no comments to make about the property as we were completely satisfied with everything.
Despite visiting the lakes and staying in holiday cottages for over 20 years. This property was undoubtedly the best property we have stayed at. The amount of space available meant that you did not feel cramped and the kitchen in particular was extremely well equipped and the perfect focus for family gatherings after a tiring day on the fells. We all enjoyed our stay immensely and this is one property we shall definitely consider staying at again- which as we normally like to move around is a huge compliment! The only slight niggle was the size of the oven to feed 9 people, that said the AGA (once we had turned it up slightly) was easy to use and was an extremely nice addition.
