Description

Rivendell is a delightful end of terrace cottage located in a traditional Lakeland farming village. Sleeping six, it is tastefully decorated with a spacious living room, dining kitchen, useful utility room, three bedrooms, bathroom and shower room. The house has a private walled garden with a good sized summerhouse and elevated terrace to soak up the sunshine. There are numerous walks available from the house, including the summit of Skiddaw for the adventurous, or a gentle lakeside stroll alongside Bassenthwaite Lake.
Rivendell is ideally located a 15-minute drive from the tourist town of Keswick, with a theatre, cinema, twice weekly market and many restaurants, cafes and pubs. 15 minutes in the other direction is Cockermouth, the oldest town in Cumbria, where you will find Wordsworth House and Garden (National Trust), Jennings Brewery and a wide range of independent shops.
The Sun Inn, serving a variety of food and local beers, is a two minute walk from the cottage and it is a short drive to the Lakes Distillery, well known for its tours and bistro. Shop on campsite (seasonal) ½ mile, pub/restaurant 220 yards.

About the local area

Bassenthwaite Lake and village of the same name is situated just north west of Keswick in the Northern Lakes. The magnificent Skiddaw (931m) can be seen rising to the east and Grisedale Pike (790m) to the south west.

Paths leading from Bassenthwaite village connect to circular walks in the area and holidaymakers are able to go fishing and sailing on the lake. From May to September look out for the wild Bassenthwaite Lake Ospreys raising their young chicks or watch the video link from Whinlatter Forest Visitor's Centre. Try a visit to the historic 17th century manor house, Mirehouse, which is close by on the eastern shore of the lake and has some lovely garden walks (Open April - October) or travel a few miles west to market town of Cockermouth or just a little further to Maryport on the coast.

This area offers the ideal base for exploring nearby Keswick; a charming Northern Lakes market town of great character and is well placed for touring the untouched northern and western lakes.
