To experience one of the best panoramic views of Lake Ullswater, you should hike up Hallin Fell which is situated mid way down the lake and is part of the well known `kink' in the length of the waters. The walk can total a distance of three miles and when you reach the summit you can experience a spectacular view of the lake and the surrounding fells. On a clear day you can see to Penrith and the fells behind as well as far north toward Scotland.

To access the walk you should drive along the side of the lake past Howtown and in to the Martindale valley, here you can find the small Martindale chapel where you can park and start you venture.
