Windermere Ferry has been operating for more than 500 years taking people, vehicles, horses and cycles across the lake, reducing traffic on the surrounding narrows roads. Originally a small craft which was rowed across the lake it is now a large ferry powered by a diesel engine. It can carry up to 18 cars and over 100 people. It links the busy eastern shores of the lake and the peaceful countryside between Windermere and Coniston on the west. Operating throughout the year and with prices from just 50p it's a great way to get around without the hassle of having to find a parking space.
