About the local area

It is hard to believe that by travelling a mere 200 yards down a single old tarmac road (which is uneven in places and may need care) brings visitors to the secret garden of Denton Garth where the atmosphere is one of peace and tranquility. Set within approx 1/3 of an acre of its own private gardens with stepped terraces and furniture to sit and drink in the views and watch the children and dogs safe at play in the fully enclosed grounds; the cottage backs onto small woodland where the quiet trickle of the small babbling brook of the Castle Beck can be heard.

Yet there is so much to see and do close by. The romantic medieval Naworth Castle with its 17th century walled gardens is often used in film productions (please note this is only open at certain times of the year), and the English Heritage site of Lanercost Priory with its tea room and gift shop Fishing is available at Talking Tarn Country Park nearby; a 65 acre lake set amidst 120 acres of farmland and woodland and is idyllic for a quiet stroll. Sailing, windsurfing, canoe and mountain bike hire are all available too. A friendly greeting regularly awaits guests to Brampton only 2 miles away and where there are ample facilities available. Its golf course is often referred to as 'the jewel of Cumbria' and a trip to Birdoswald Roman Fort is a fun day out. Birdwatchers will delight in Geltsdale RSPB reserve where fascinating hen harriers are frequently seen and ramblers will enjoy the many local walks including those at Milton Rigg, Geltwoods and Geltsdale.

Denton Garth is a chocolate box cottage and a quintessential rural retreat very close to Hadrian's Wall Country set in England's largest Heritage site within the most northerly of National Parks . Banks 'Turret is nearby and Vindolanda, Thirlwell Castle, The Roman Army Museum and Walltown Craggs - the highest remaining section of Hadrian's Wall are all within easy reach. Take the train from Brampton into Carlisle, only 10 miles west or travel east for an hour to the vibrant city of Newcastle. This  unique location gives easy access to the Lake District National Park, the Solway Firth, Hadrian's Wall Country and the Scottish borders too so Denton Garth appears to be in the middle of nowhere but in reality is in the centre of everywhere!
