Description

This impressive Georgian country house offers extensive holiday accommodation and stands in it’s own gated grounds in the attractive, ancient market town of Appleby in Westmorland. The property has been totally refurbished to a very high standard retaining many of the original features, including an elegant staircase. The grounds are mainly laid to lawn with an outdoor eating/BBQ area and hot tub. Just a five minute walk takes you down to the town centre. Appleby is built in the curve of the River Eden and is a traditional medieval town with the castle at the top of the hill sloping gently downhill to the church. This is one of the prettiest market towns in England and despite once being the county town of Westmorland it retains a village atmosphere with a great deal of interest and charm. Situated in the beautiful Eden Valley the location is superb for exploring the highlights of the North of England as it separates the Lakes District fells from the Pennines and also gives easy access to the Yorkshire and Durham Dales. The scenic Carlisle to Settle railway route runs through Appleby and makes a great day out. Further afield, the Northumberland National Park along with Hadrian’s Wall and the Scottish Border are within an hours drive. Superb walking, cycling, golf and fishing are all available near by. A good selection of shops and pubs 500 yards. Ullswater is only a 20 minute drive away.

About the local area

The Eden Valley is set in a tranquil corner of East Cumbria nestling in between The Lake District, The Yorkshire Dales National Park and the North Pennines; all areas of outstanding natural beauty and a lovely holiday destination at any time of the year.

There's plenty to occupy visitors from cycling the quiet country lanes (Try the Eden Valley Circular Cycle Route) to taking gentle riverside strolls, or maybe its pony trekking, fishing or golf and despite its rural location there's plenty of visitor attractions close by.

Travelling among undulating meadows visitors will come across charming villages which are dotted throughout the area and busy market towns such as Penrith, renowned for its specialist shops, history and architecture. Picturesque Appleby with its 12th century church, Norman Castle and wide medieval main street, lays to the south east of Penrith, here at Appleby station you can catch the train for a ride along the scenic Settle-Carlisle railway line.

The Eden Valley truly is Cumbria's `Hidden Gem' which maintains the illusion of untouched remoteness despite its extremely accessible location.
