Melmerby is an enticingly quaint and peaceful village in the Eden Valley of the Cumbrian countryside. With an estimated population of only 200, it is one of the quieter attractions for travellers and fell walkers from around the world. It has its own fell - the aptly named Melmerby Fell - which provides a path to the highest part of the Pennines: Cross Fell. Walkers with the desire for a very quiet and relaxing retreat to the hills have a range of Cumbrian cottages to choose from in Melmerby. The local pub, The Shepherds Inn, has a great reputation for its hearty menu, homely real ales and healthy selection of British cheeses. It is accompanied by the close-by and ever-popular Village Bakery, which was opened by the Prince of Wales at the turn of the millennium. Both of these welcoming places have their own websites if you would like to know more. Long Meg and Her Daughters, which is the second largest stone circle in Britain, is also located within walking distance. The Melmerby village green is surrounded by authentic red sandstone buildings and has an attractive stream cutting through it. Situated in the Lake District, it is inevitable that the village is surrounded by lush countryside, so you can rest assured that, to wherever you decide to wander, there will always be a magnificent view to soak in. One of our cottages in Melmerby will be there waiting for you when you're ready to come back and unwind even more.
