This luxurious upside down barn conversion is perfect for two couples, with two en-suite bedrooms downstairs and open plan living upstairs. Situated in the grounds of Asby Hall, a 17th Century Grade II listed property in Great Asby, a conservation village. This picture postcard village, in an area of 'Outstanding Natural Beauty' in the Eden Valley, has pretty sand stone cottages, a river flowing through the middle, a pub serving food and lies five miles from Appleby and seven miles from Kirkby Stephen. The area is dotted with picturesque villages surrounded by acres of peaceful open countryside, perfect for walking and cycling, with very little traffic.

About the local area

The Eden Valley is set in a tranquil corner of East Cumbria nestling in between The Lake District, The Yorkshire Dales National Park and the North Pennines; all areas of outstanding natural beauty and a lovely holiday destination at any time of the year.

There’s plenty to occupy visitors from cycling the quiet country lanes (Try the Eden Valley Circular Cycle Route) to taking gentle riverside strolls, or maybe its pony trekking, fishing or golf and despite its rural location there’s plenty of visitor attractions close by.

Travelling among undulating meadows visitors will come across charming villages which are dotted throughout the area and busy market towns such as Penrith, renowned for its specialist shops, history and architecture. Picturesque Appleby with its 12th century church, Norman Castle and wide medieval main street, lays to the south east of Penrith, here at Appleby station you can catch the train for a ride along the scenic Settle-Carlisle railway line.

The Eden Valley truly is Cumbria’s ‘Hidden Gem’ which maintains the illusion of untouched remoteness despite its extremely accessible location.

The location was great, we were able to do a number of walks from the door step as well as travel into the Lake District for a couple of days. Appleby town was great with a lovely butchers, green grocers and supermarkets and we used the kitchen alot to enjoy the local produce. We could not have wished for more.
