Description

Guards Hill Byre is on the site of a Roman field hospital and is partially built from stone from the ’wall’. This superb barn conversion provides excellent accommodation for a short break or full week in Hadrian’s Wall country. It could be a romantic retreat or a base for couples and young families to explore the wall. Situated at Walton, just north of Brampton it is centrally located and within easy reach of the Lake District, Scottish Borders, Eden Valley and the historic border city of Carlisle. The owners are in the hospitality trade and will ensure you have an enjoyable stay. They provide a welcome pack, pick up and drop off at the station or for cycling and walking, books and games, towels, secure storage for bikes etc and private garden.

Carlisle's modern city centre has a rich heritage; a wonderful combination of culture, history and the great outdoors. It is surrounded by acres of parkland and has some of our finest countryside right on the doorstep.

This great border city has had a turbulent past, leaving a legacy for today's visitors to experience. Carlisle Castle was founded in 1092 by William the Conqueror's son and became one time prison to Mary Queen of Scots. Later it was captured by Bonnie Prince Charlie during the ill fated Jacobite rebellion of 1745. Other places to visit include Carlisle Cathedral and the award winning Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery.

Nearly 2000 years ago Emporer Hadrian built Hadrian's Wall, stretching coast to coast, marking the northern boundary of Roman Britain. Today it is a World Heritage Site with a National Trail Path that allows walkers to travel along its entire 80 mile length; a great way to discover more about the region.
