Gilsland is a quaint little village quietly covering the border between Cumbria and Northumberland. Popularised by the romantic novelist Sir Walter Scott, Gilsland is also situated on the famous Hadrian's wall, making it an excellent base for exploring the remains of this historic roman site. With the added bonus of the famous Poltross Burn Milecastle, one of the best preserved milecastles on Hadrian's wall, Gilsland is an excellent village with much to offer the budding historians andarchaeologists out there.
Located only half an our by car to Hexham and Carlisle, Gilsland is the perfect destination for a quiet holiday and with the options of exlporing the larger neighbouring towns, if required.
