About the local area

Carlisle's modern city centre has a rich heritage; a wonderful combination of culture, history and the great outdoors. It is surrounded by acres of parkland and has some of our finest countryside right on the doorstep.

This great border city has had a turbulent past, leaving a legacy for today's visitors to experience. Carlisle Castle was founded in 1092 by William the Conqueror's son and became one time prison to Mary Queen of Scots. Later it was captured by Bonnie Prince Charlie during the ill fated Jacobite rebellion of 1745. Other places to visit include Carlisle Cathedral and the award winning Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery.

Nearly 2000 years ago Emporer Hadrian built Hadrian's Wall, stretching coast to coast, marking the northern boundary of Roman Britain. Today it is a World Heritage Site with a National Trail Path that allows walkers to travel along its entire 80 mile length; a great way to discover more about the region.

So if you're looking for secluded country walks, city art galleries, forts and museums, Stately Homes and castles, you'll find it all here!

Primrose Cottage - Good heating and water heating system - OK on sub-zero nights. Very nice bathrooms and I would say good for disabled use with easy access all over ground floor and to wet room.

Steven Ogden - October 2011

Cottage was pefect and was done to a great standard but was kept in character of a cottage.
