Steeped in tradition and having been held for over 300 years the Appleby Horse Fair is a major date on the calendar for the travelling community. The small town of Appleby-in-Westmorland is transformed as over 30,000 visitors come to see traditional horse racing and trotting through the town as horses are brought form far and wide to the fair.
This is the largest of its kind in the world and attracts a large gypsy gathering alongside regular visitors to the area giving it an atmosphere like no other.
Hundreds of horses are washed in the River Eden ready to be show of through the streets or raced on carriage, quite a sight to behold.
