Description

Boston House ('sister property' to Alice Howe and Bannerrigg) is the perfect base for large groups of friends or families to take a holiday or a short break. The property sleeps 14 comfortably in 7 bedrooms, each bedroom has an ipod dock alarm clock, white cotton bedding and TV. Five of the bedrooms have en-suite shower rooms; the other two rooms have separate bathrooms, which means every bedroom has private facilities. For the romantics in your party there are two four poster beds and one half tester bed.
During the 2008 winter period Boston House has had an exterior makeover. The rear courtyard has been cleared and a new raised slate bed patio has been installed. At the front of the property the car park has been expanded and there is now parking for up to 6 cars.
Newly refitted kitchen with solid oak units, Lakeland slate work-tops, 7 ring burner - twin oven range cooker. 46 bottle wine cooler and 8 seat central island unit.
The lounge has a living flame gas fire, leather settees, larger flat screen TV, DVD player cinema surround sound system and a hifi with ipod dock. The fireplace designed by Pugin is believed to be a small-scale replica of the one he designed for Westminster palace. The dining room has a huge table perfect for entertaining a large group. It is equipped with a Base ipod dock. New 14 seat cinema in the cellar with hi-def, Blue-Ray projector and proper fold down cinema seats.
The rear courtyard is walled all round and is extremely private. There is a huge teak table and chairs sitting on a raised slate bed patio perfect for dining al fresco and its surrounding walls mean that it is well protected from the wind. At the front of the property there is a second patio with table and four chairs, which is a real suntrap - perfect for a quiet coffee! The house has private parking for up to 6 cars. As you would imagine the property has been thoughtfully decorated and furnished in keeping with its Grade II listed status.
So if you're looking for a house in the Lakes to celebrate a 30th, 40th, 50th, 60th or even 70th birthday Boston House is the ideal choice.
This property can be booked together with Alice Howe (127187) , Bannerrigg (127195) , White Moss and Number One to accommodate up to 66 people in 30 bedrooms!

The houses do have wifi, however due to our remote operation we cannot guarantee this will compatable with your system.

Miscellaneous

At the front of the house there is parking for up to 6 cars and a small patio.  To the rear there is an extremely private walled courtyard garden with a sheltered slate base raised patio with a large teak table and chairs.
One dog allowed (please ask if you would like to bring more than one)
Arrival time is from 4pm onwards.

About the local area

Lake Windermere is perhaps the best know area in the Lake District and Windermere village itself is about 1km from the lake. The lake stretches from Waterhead, near Ambleside, to Lakeside at its narrow southern end, over 10 miles in length and the largest lake in England. Wooded slopes dotted with cottages and houses line its shores, while the water itself is usually busy with ferries and yachts.

Windermere is not as busy as it’s near neighbour, Bowness-on-Windermere, but has its own charms and attractions. It has excellent amenities and a good selection of shops, restaurants and bars all within easy reach. The village has good public transport links with its own train station and bus routes.

Troutbeck Bridge lies to the north in between Windermere and Ambleside; handy for both but located just off the beaten track. Troutbeck Bridge has its own local amenities including a public swimming pool and a local pub. Between Troutbeck Bridge and the Low Wood Hotel lies Brockhole – The Lake District Visitor Centre. This has an adventure playground, exhibitions, café, shop and extensive grounds down to the lake and jetty.

Situated between Kendal and Windermere is the lovely village of Staveley which is often referred to as the Gateway to the Lakes. It mainly comprises of grey slate buildings which are nestled between the Rivers Kent and Gowan. It is ideally placed for exploring the rest of the Lake District and is only a few minutes away from the beautiful Kentmere valley.

We feel very much at home at Boston House it has everything our family wants and we have now booked for our 4th year in October 2012 half term. For the young and old it's location is exellent. Shops, walks, pubs what more do you want.

Property was excellent, everything we needed was there. The owners have thought of every little detail from utensils in the kitchen to books and games for the kids. Maintenance issues were dealt with promptly.

This property just loves our family in it , it is just home from home. This is our second year at Boston House and we have already booked for next year.


Everything was first class, even the fact it had its own private back garden. All the bedrooms and bathrooms/ensuites were lovely. kitchen beautiful - we actually ate in there instead of using the dining room.


We appreciated and used the dining room every day as we eat our evening meal together (13 of us) We liked the size of the house as we ranged in age from 4 - 64. We didn't use the top floor shower room at all, there was a notice about the step but we felt it would be too easy to fall.


Walking between Grasmere and Langdale

Starting at Grasmere, you can take a wonderful nine mile walk up on to the fells between Grasmere and Great Langdale; this is a great part of the country to walk in.

Ambleside Roman Fort

Located on the outskirts of Ambleside you can find the Ambleside Roman Fort which dates back to the 2nd century. These remains are well marked and were probably built during Roman times as a watch out. It is now managed and protected by the National Trust.

Cookhouse Galleries

Cookhouse galleries are a family run business which was first set up back in 1981 and is well known for its wide variety of artwork and photography from many different artists from the Lake District area.

Hobbs Gallery

Ambleside is full of charming galleries showcasing the talent of the local artists and photographers and Hobbs Gallery is definitely one of them, full of the artwork of Phil Hobbs. He has a large selection of amazing water coloured paintings with many inspired by the surrounding Lake District.

Stagshaw Gardens

Over eight acres of beautiful gardens can be found overlooking the lake of Windermere, just south of Ambleside. Spring is the best time to visit this amazing location when the flora is at their best with the bluebells covering lots of the area.

Stockghyll Force

The water of Stockghyll tumbles down beautifully over the rocks before pleasantly running further along through the town of Ambleside. To reach the waterfall you take the picturesque footpath through the Stock Ghyll Woods which in early spring is beautiful with all the colourful daffodils.

The Apple Pie

A very well known café and bakery in the centre of Ambleside is ‘The Apple Pie’, famous for its delicious freshly baked treats, particularly the apple pies!

The Glass House Restaurant

Located in the heart of Ambleside is this wonderful restaurant known as The Glass House with its suberb glass front, allowing you to soak up in the amazing lighting over the amazing architecture and artefacts whilst enjoying your food made from local produce.

Beatrix Potter Gallery

A gallery of Beatrix Potter’s illustrations and drawings can be found in the 17th Century building which was once the office to her solicitor husband, William Heelis. The gallery has a ever changing exhibition of her work with a room styled as her husband once had it as an office.

Go Ape in Grizedale Forest

If rope bridges, tarzan swings and zip wires sound like your thing, Go Ape is the place to go during your holiday. This challenging course is up high in the tree tops and is an exhilarating adventure for all ages.
