Description

Alice Howe, ('sister property' to Bannerrigg and Boston House) a grade II listed property, was designed by Augustus (AWN) Pugin (1812-1852), arguably the greatest British architect, designer and writer of the 19th Century whose name is synonymous with the interior of the House of Lords and Westminster Abbey.

This Majestic home is furnished and presented in a unique style - chunky king-size four poster beds, solid ash single beds give and lush decoration - qualities that have justified the property's 4 star status with Visit Britain.

Alice Howe  has 7 bedrooms, and 7 bathrooms ( 5 of which are en-suite). Making it an ideal base for the larger party. The train and bus station are literally around the corner, so the house is easily accessible for those members of your group that are travelling from far and wideor added. We've also extended the car park to accommodate up to 6 cars.

The addition of more single beds has made this property ideal not just for couples and families but now also for groups of single friends. If you're looking for a big house to rent in the lakes for an 'upmarket' stag or hen weekend Alice Howe is the ideal choice.

This property can be booked together with Boston House (127199) and Bannerrigg (127195) to accommodate up to 42 people!

About the local area

Lake Windermere is perhaps the best know area in the Lake District and Windermere village itself is about 1km from the lake. The lake stretches from Waterhead, near Ambleside, to Lakeside at its narrow southern end, over 10 miles in length and the largest lake in England. Wooded slopes dotted with cottages and houses line its shores, while the water itself is usually busy with ferries and yachts.

Windermere is not as busy as it’s near neighbour, Bowness-on-Windermere, but has its own charms and attractions. It has excellent amenities and a good selection of shops, restaurants and bars all within easy reach. The village has good public transport links with its own train station and bus routes.

Troutbeck Bridge lies to the north in between Windermere and Ambleside; handy for both but located just off the beaten track. Troutbeck Bridge has its own local amenities including a public swimming pool and a local pub. Between Troutbeck Bridge and the Low Wood Hotel lies Brockhole – The Lake District Visitor Centre. This has an adventure playground, exhibitions, café, shop and extensive grounds down to the lake and jetty.

Situated between Kendal and Windermere is the lovely village of Staveley which is often referred to as the Gateway to the Lakes. It mainly comprises of grey slate buildings which are nestled between the Rivers Kent and Gowan. It is ideally placed for exploring the rest of the Lake District and is only a few minutes away from the beautiful Kentmere valley.
