Situated in Troutbeck Bridge and enjoying stunning views towards the famous Langdale Pikes this character cottage is ideal for honeymoon couples. Converted from an original school house and finished to a high standard with attention to detail including the use of church pews, possibly from the converted Chapel close by. Centrally situated and handy for both Windermere and Ambleside, yet perched in a peaceful setting with Troutbeck Valley on the doorstep. The exposed beams, vaulted ceilings, stripped and polished floors with magnificent scenery, combine in Grooms Cottage to provide a memorable holiday retreat.

Accommodation details

Ground floor

The accommodation has a welcoming atmosphere, gas central heating and comprises:
Cloakroom: Understairs with WC and hand basin.
Lounge/diner: Large, bright and cosy with an array of picture windows to afford the views, open fire in stone fireplace, beams, TV, DVD, video, CD midi system and a dining table.
Kitchen: With electric oven, gas hob, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and microwave. The washer/dryer is neatly concealed in the hall.

First floor

Bedroom 1: With antique brass double bed, TV, polished red wood floor, vaulted ceiling, exposed beams and superb views.
Bathroom: With polished floor, sunken bath with WC and hand basin.

All gas, electric and bed linen included. Sorry, no babies.


Outside there is an enclosed sun terrace and ample private parking. Fuel for the open fire is available locally.
Grooms Cottage is an ideal honeymoon cottage.

About the local area

Lake Windermere is perhaps the best know area in the Lake District and Windermere village itself is about 1km from the lake. The lake stretches from Waterhead, near Ambleside, to Lakeside at its narrow southern end, over 10 miles in length and the largest lake in England. Wooded slopes dotted with cottages and houses line its shores, while the water itself is usually busy with ferries and yachts.

Windermere is not as busy as it's near neighbour, Bowness-on-Windermere, but has its own charms and attractions. It has excellent amenities and a good selection of shops, restaurants and bars all within easy reach. The village has good public transport links with its own train station and bus routes.

Troutbeck Bridge lies to the north in between Windermere and Ambleside; handy for both but located just off the beaten track. Troutbeck Bridge has its own local amenities including a public swimming pool and a local pub. Between Troutbeck Bridge and the Low Wood Hotel lies Brockhole - The Lake District Visitor Centre. This has an adventure playground, exhibitions, cafe, shop and extensive grounds down to the lake and jetty.

Situated between Kendal and Windermere is the lovely village of Staveley which is often referred to as the Gateway to the Lakes. It mainly comprises of grey slate buildings which are nestled between the Rivers Kent and Gowan. It is ideally placed for exploring the rest of the Lake District and is only a few minutes away from the beautiful Kentmere valley.
