Description

Westby House is situated in a beautiful and peaceful location within the Yorkshire Dales National Park, just outside the village of Sedbergh, and having commanding and outstanding views of the Howgills and the Lune Valley. Once Sedbergh’s old railway station, the property has been converted into two luxurious semi-detached holiday homes – Westby House (ref UK2430) and Old Station Cottage (UK2431), both of which retain internal original features.
Westby House forms the main part of the old station buildings. This outstanding property still boasts the 60 foot long platform (now a patio), and sits in 3 acres of private gardens at the end of a 150-yard drive, and cannot be seen from the road. South west facing, the gardens have the sun all day and are perfect for watching the bright stars in the evenings. Westby House is beautifully furnished with its own entrance and 24 hour access via key safe.
Sedbergh station used to transport both passengers and livestock on the old Low Gill to Ingleton line. It was closed in 1965 after the rail nationalisation and it became the family home of the last station master until it was bought by its present owners.
Within easy reach of the M6 motorway, you are not far from the Lake District National Park, making it the perfect holiday getaway for exploring the hidden treasures of the Lakes and Dales, and is the ideal base for walkers, cyclists and motorists. The owner has thoughtfully provided complimentary toiletries. Supermarket less than ½ a mile. Shops, pubs, restaurants and cafes 1 mile.
Westby House can be booked together with Old Station Cottage (UK2431) to accommodate up to 10 guests.

About the local area

Kirkby Lonsdale is in Cumbria's south east in between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales; an historic market town in an area of great natural beauty with riverside and country walks.

There are many riverside and country walks in the area, and historic buildings to see in the town itself, including the 11th century Norman parish church. While some market towns have become spoilt over the years, Kirkby Lonsdale and its surrounding area of outstanding landscape still retain the same beauty appreciated by Constable, Turner, and Ruskin.

Further north lays Kirkby Stephen at the head of the Eden Valley, a popular centre for walkers and situated on the Cumbria Cycle Way - a great route for all keen cyclists.

Half an hour's drive from Kirkby Stephen is the beautiful area of Silverdale - an Area of Outstanding Beauty, offering a truly inspiring escape from the pace and pressures of everyday life. Don't miss the headland of Jack Scout leading to Jenny Brown's Point. From here, look out across the bay to see Humphrey Head where, so legend has it, the last wolf in England was slain.
