Description

Old Station Cottage is situated in a beautiful and peaceful location within the Yorkshire Dales National Park and just outside the village of Sedbergh, having commanding and outstanding views of the Howgills and the Lune Valley. Once Sedbergh’s old railway station, the property has been converted into two luxurious semi-detached holiday homes – Old Station Cottage (ref UK2431) and Westby House (ref UK2430), both of which retain internal original features. The living room of Old Station Cottage was once the ladies waiting room.
This outstanding single-storey property still boasts the 60 foot long platform (now a patio), and sits in 3 acres of private gardens at the end of a 150-yard drive, and cannot be seen from the road. South west facing, the gardens have the sun all day, and are perfect for watching the bright stars in the evenings. Old Station Cottage is beautifully furnished and has its own entrance with 24 hour access via key safe.
The location is ideal for visiting both the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District National Parks.
The station used to transport both passengers and livestock on the old Low Gill to Ingleton line. It was closed in 1965 after the rail nationalisation and it became the family home of the last station master until it was bought by its present owners. Complimentary toiletries have been supplied for guests’ use by the thoughtful owners. Supermarket less than ½ a mile. Shops, pubs, restaurants and cafes 1 mile.
Old Station Cottage can be booked together with Westby House (UK2430) to accommodate up to 10 guests.

About the local area

Kirkby Lonsdale is in Cumbria's south east in between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales; an historic market town in an area of great natural beauty with riverside and country walks.

There are many riverside and country walks in the area, and historic buildings to see in the town itself, including the 11th century Norman parish church. While some market towns have become spoilt over the years, Kirkby Lonsdale and its surrounding area of outstanding landscape still retain the same beauty appreciated by Constable, Turner, and Ruskin.

Further north lays Kirkby Stephen at the head of the Eden Valley, a popular centre for walkers and situated on the Cumbria Cycle Way - a great route for all keen cyclists.

Half an hour's drive from Kirkby Stephen is the beautiful area of Silverdale - an Area of Outstanding Beauty, offering a truly inspiring escape from the pace and pressures of everyday life. Don't miss the headland of Jack Scout leading to Jenny Brown's Point. From here, look out across the bay to see Humphrey Head where, so legend has it, the last wolf in England was slain.
