Description

This spacious, well-equipped terraced cottage, with exposed beams is centrally situated in a peaceful, picturesque, cobbled area in a historic village, which is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The picturesque village has its own pub/restaurant which is a short walk from Rose Cottage. There is also a butchers and a general village shop. The cottage is in an enviable position with some lovely countryside surrounding it - a great base for walks straight from the door. You may be lucky enough to see the wild deer which frequent the area. Walk up to Farleton Knott and Burton Fell to see the limestone pavements. Nearby is the canal, a fishery and the RSPB Leighton Moss reserve. Sizergh Castle, Levens Hall, Leighton Hall and Borwick Hall are a short drive away. Shoppers will love the historic market town of Kendal with its eclectic mix of independent retailers, cafes, restaurants and high street favourites.

About the local area

Kirkby Lonsdale is in Cumbria's south east in between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales; an historic market town in an area of great natural beauty with riverside and country walks.

There are many riverside and country walks in the area, and historic buildings to see in the town itself, including the 11th century Norman parish church. While some market towns have become spoilt over the years, Kirkby Lonsdale and its surrounding area of outstanding landscape still retain the same beauty appreciated by Constable, Turner, and Ruskin.

Further north lays Kirkby Stephen at the head of the Eden Valley, a popular centre for walkers and situated on the Cumbria Cycle Way - a great route for all keen cyclists.

Half an hour's drive from Kirkby Stephen is the beautiful area of Silverdale - an Area of Outstanding Beauty, offering a truly inspiring escape from the pace and pressures of everyday life. Don't miss the headland of Jack Scout leading to Jenny Brown's Point. From here, look out across the bay to see Humphrey Head where, so legend has it, the last wolf in England was slain.
