Description

Low Mouthlock Cottage is a fantastically remote, quintessentially English, detached, stone property with parts dating back to the 1650’s. This stylish holiday home has tremendous views that change by the minute which can stretch up to 30 miles along the beautiful Eden Valley, and never disappoints. The cottage is equipped to a very high standard with a lovely mix of contemporary and antique furniture. The lounge has a wood burner and the snug provides an extra space for guests to relax. There are four bedrooms, all of which have high exposed roof trusses and two have their own en-suites.

Peacefully set in a well maintained garden, this is the perfect place for the discerning guest to get away from life’s stresses and relax for a week or two. At the heart of this unique and very comfortable cottage is the kitchen, which successfully combines quirky character, wonky walls and a modern Aga (great for slow cooking), with a streamline, bright and airy, modern space. Situated in the east of the county in a rural location, the property is ideally placed for exploring the highlights of the north of England. Sandwiched between the Lakes and Dales National Parks, both within a 40 minute drive, and with Northumberland, Hadrian’s Wall, the Pennines an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Teesdale, where you can visit the most spectacular waterfall in England, and the Scottish Borders all within an easy scenic drive makes this a perfect holiday base. Tan Hill, the highest pub in England, is romantically set in wild, moorland landscape, five miles, and there is a good selection of pubs, restaurants and galleries in Brough and Kirkby Stephen, six miles.

About the local area

Kirkby Lonsdale is in Cumbria's south east in between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales; an historic market town in an area of great natural beauty with riverside and country walks.

There are many riverside and country walks in the area, and historic buildings to see in the town itself, including the 11th century Norman parish church. While some market towns have become spoilt over the years, Kirkby Lonsdale and its surrounding area of outstanding landscape still retain the same beauty appreciated by Constable, Turner, and Ruskin.

Further north lays Kirkby Stephen at the head of the Eden Valley, a popular centre for walkers and situated on the Cumbria Cycle Way - a great route for all keen cyclists.

Half an hour's drive from Kirkby Stephen is the beautiful area of Silverdale - an Area of Outstanding Beauty, offering a truly inspiring escape from the pace and pressures of everyday life. Don't miss the headland of Jack Scout leading to Jenny Brown's Point. From here, look out across the bay to see Humphrey Head where, so legend has it, the last wolf in England was slain.
