Description

Situated within the grounds of the owners home, with its own private garden and stunning open views, Whitefoot Lodge offers comfortable accommodation which is ideally located for exploring the South Lakes. Located in the small Lakeland village of Burneside, this detached, single-storey timber lodge offers a peaceful retreat, ideal for couples or families seeking a relaxing break away from the busier tourist towns. There is a spacious open plan living area with French doors that lead out to the decking. Perfect for al fresco dining, the furnished patio and adjacent lawned garden offer lovely unspoilt views over the surrounding countryside. There is also a wooded area next to the lodge which provides some much needed shade in hotter weather.

The village has a local pub, fish and chip shop, grocery store and a bakery. Burneside is just 10 miles from the M6, making it a very accessible gateway in to the Lakes. The village also has a train station with services into Windermere and Oxenholme, which then connects to the West Coast Mainline. A wider range of amenities including a good selection of individual shops, high street stores, supermarkets, pubs, cafes and restaurants can be found in the bustling town of Kendal, just 3 miles away.

Other popular towns and villages in the South Lakes area worth visiting include Windermere, 9 miles, Ambleside, 11 miles, Hawkshead, 16 miles, and Coniston, 18 miles. There are several stately homes and gardens in the area including Levens Hall and Sizergh Castle, both within a 15-minute drive, and Holker Hall, near Grange-over-Sands, is just 30 minutes’ away. Families with children will enjoy a visit to The World of Beatrix Potter attraction, 9 miles, Lakeside Aquarium and Motor Museum, 19 miles. Slightly further afield is the South Lakes Zoo at 30 miles.

Close to the Dales Way, there are plenty of walking opportunities in the area from a gentle stroll along the River Kent to more challenging fell top walks. Other popular activities include fell running, climbing, water sports and cycling. A popular place for mountain biking is Grizedale Forest, 24 miles, which has a lovely sculpture trail as well as the GoApe treetop adventure and segway experience that the whole family will enjoy.

Whitefoot Lodge is well located for exploring the Yorkshire Dales National Park, with the popular towns of Sedbergh and Ingleton just a 30-minute drive away. About the local area

Situated to the South of the Lake District, and only a short drive from the sea, Kendal is especially well placed to cater for everyone's holiday needs. Kendal is often seen as the Southern gateway to the Lake District, being only around nine miles from Windermere and around 30 miles from Keswick.

The other lakes are all within an hour or two's travelling by car from the town, as are locations for walks and rambles, both gentle and demanding. The town is home to a fine selection of shopping arcades, can boast two castles, two museums, a host of historical buildings and bridges, fine restaurants, a multitude of public houses, and views that would please the most demanding photographer including the nearby ruin of Kendal Castle.

The pleasant Lakeland village of Underbarrow lies to the west of the town of Kendal and sits at the foot of Helsington Barrow, a limestone ridge rising to around 700 feet. Underbarrow stands at the centre of a network of roads linking Kendal to Crosthwaite in the Lyth Valley, Newby Bridge and Ulverston and the village of Crook to Levens making it idea to explore all the surrounding areas with ease.

Further west is the small village of Crosthwaite which is an ideal point from which to explore the Windermere and South Lakes area and, with walks right from the door, it will please keen walkers and hikers.
