Nestling in the shadow of Cunswick Scar, one of the finest view points in the South Lakes, sits Low Plumgarths Farmhouse, a former much loved family home which has been recently transformed to offer top class accommodation for the larger party. The farmhouse, set in the small hamlet of Plumgarths has direct access to 24 acres of rolling farmland leading to Cunswick and Scout Scar so is perfect for enjoying the great outdoors. And if you work up a thirst, The Gateway Hotel and bar, literally across the road, serve excellent homemade food, ideal if the nominated chef requires a night off! Plumgarths award wining farm shop and tea room, adjacent to the property, is perfect for sampling a taste of true Lakeland, the fresh meat, poultry and cheeses all produced on the surrounding land. The owners of the farmhouse will leave you a small welcome pack to sample upon your arrival and the shop will leave you a discount voucher for use off all purchases during your stay.
Low Plumgarths Farmhouse was built around 1710 and enjoys a lovely, sunny spot just off the Crook Road at the gateway to the Lakes and within the National Park boundary. The accommodation is very spacious, having both a main lounge area with open fire and further social dining lounge with wood burning stove. Original oak beams and panelling throughout the building have been beautifully married with 21st century fittings of new bath and shower rooms and a stunning cream Aga that takes pride of place in the newly fitted kitchen. There's certainly enough space for everyone to gather together in the evening for a family meal or board game but equally sufficient space to have your own little bit of peace and quiet, even for the dog as the owners have provided a dog house and fully enclosed courtyard - please see the note below.

The other lakes are all within an hour or two's travelling by car from the town, as are locations for walks and rambles, both gentle and demanding. The town is home to a fine selection of shopping arcades, can boast two castles, two museums, a host of historical buildings and bridges, fine restaurants, a multitude of public houses, and views that would please the most demanding photographer including the nearby ruin of Kendal Castle.
The pleasant Lakeland village of Underbarrow lies to the west of the town of Kendal and sits at the foot of Helsington Barrow, a limestone ridge rising to around 700 feet. Underbarrow stands at the centre of a network of roads linking Kendal to Crosthwaite in the Lyth Valley, Newby Bridge and Ulverston and the village of Crook to Levens making it idea to explore all the surrounding areas with ease.
Further west is the small village of Crosthwaite which is an ideal point from which to explore the Windermere and South Lakes area and, with walks right from the door, it will please keen walkers and hikers.
