Just five miles to the west of Kendal lies the Parish of Crosthwaite and Lyth, containing the quaint little village of Crosthwaite set amid miles of open countryside at the head of the Lyth Valley and the foot of the Lake District National Park. Being so close to Kendal and also to the lovely town of Bowness-on-Windermere makes Crosthwaite an ideal place to get away from it all, without deserting oneself completely from some excellent local amenities and sightseeing attractions. Crosthwaite, often referred to by locals with broad northern accents as "Cros-thet", prides itself on its beautifully kept farmland, with immaculate dry stone walls and hedges keeping the landscape looking pristine and typically Cumbrian. In the morning, as you awake in your cosy Crosthwaite cottage accommodation, you will be likely to hear the peal of bells ringing out across the Lyth Valley from St Mary's Church - an important hub for the community of Crosthwaite. The village has four different areas in which houses and amenities are gathered and the walks between them are wonderfully serene.
