3 Townhead Cottages sits in a most enviable position on the fringes of Grasmere village, directly beneath Helm Crag and Steel Fell therefore enjoying wonderful, uninterrupted views. The cottage is on a small working farm and offers guests the opportunity of sampling life in typical, rural Lakeland.  Grasmere village is a short stroll away and offers a good selection of interesting tea shops and galleries as well as a co-op store and an excellent bakery for everyday provisions.
Built in the 19th Century, the cottage is delightfully presented with original flagged floors, oak beams and original gas lights, now converted to electric and these features have been combined with pretty decor and hand picked accessories, depicting the famous writers this fantastic location inspired.

Ground floor

The property has night storage heating and a multi-fuel stove and comprises:
Living room: Open plan living/dining room with multi fuel stove (initial logs provided) and TV. Stable doors lead from lounge to the delightful enclosed garden.
Kitchen: neat with electric cooker, fridge with small freezer box and microwave.
Useful boot room.

First floor

Bedroom 1: With twin beds to the front of the cottage.
Bedroom 2: Delightful double bedroom with ornamental cast iron fireplace.
Bathroom: With cast iron roll top bath, hand basin, WC and heated towel rail.

About the local area

Grasmere is a charming village in the heart of the Lake District National Park, situated in a valley surrounded by the lush green slopes of the Lakeland hills. Lovely old cottages and houses built of the local blue-green slate sit along side the art galleries and shops that line the twisty streets of the village.

Once home to the famous poet William Wordsworth visitors can see his two former homes - Dove Cottage and Rydal Mount and Gardens. At the centre of the village is St. Oswald's Church which contains the Wordsworth family graves.

A short distance to the west is the village of Chapel Stile at the entrance to the spectacular Langdale Valley with superb scenery all around. Langdale offers a variety of fell and low level walks making it a good base for walkers of all abilities.

Overlooking the village of Coniston is the beautiful fell known as the `Old Man of Coniston'. A part of the Furness Fells, this summit is over 800 metres high and is interesting to the eye with evidence mining that was done here years ago.

Grasmere and Great Langdale

The National Trust owns most of the valley's farms, the glaciated valley of Mickleden, a Victorian garden in High Close and the dramatic Dungeon Ghyll.

Rydal Water
Rydal Water

Linked to Lake Grasmere by the River Rothay, Rydal Water is one of the smallest lakes in Cumbria measuring 3/4 mile long and 1/4 mile wide. Up the hill overlooking the lake, you can find RydaL Caves in the hill rock, they are surprisingly large and over 200 years ago they were used as a quarry supplying stone to the local villages.

Walking between Grasmere and Langdale

Starting at Grasmere, you can take a wonderful nine mile walk up on to the fells between Grasmere and Great Langdale; this is a great part of the country to walk in.

The River Rothay is a popular place to kayak. The meandering river provides great waters for novices to have a go at this exciting water sport.

Grasmere Lake

Just a short stroll away from the village of Grasmere, you will find Grasmere Lake which is one of the smaller lakes in the Lake District measuring one mile in length and half a mile in width.
